Where Fire Meets Flame By Elena Kincaid

BLURB:

As a private detective, Riley Scott has witnessed her fair share of the ugly side of relationships. She guards her heart like a fortress, but a pair of sizzling blue eyes threatens to take down all of her barriers. He came to her rescue through a blazing fire. Now, she could only hope he would not incinerate her heart.

Tristan Cain hasn’t been able to let go of his red-headed angel, or his promise to get justice. Fate throws them together again when he once thought it would be impossible, and when a daring rescue turns out to be the least of their worries, Tristan vows to keep her safe. He’s not letting Riley out of his sight again.

*****

EXCERPT:

Dance with me?”

So engrossed in her conversation with Tristan, Riley hadn’t even noticed the dance floor was starting to fill up. She reveled in the idea of finally being close to him after so many times imagining it. “I’d love to.”

They polished off the rest of their second round of drinks and Tristan took her hand and led her to the dance floor. She noticed Terry dancing it up with an attractive guy, possibly in his early to mid-thirties, and not one of the guys from James’ table. When their eyes met, Terry winked at her, and Riley already anticipated the grilling she’d receive from him later.

“I’m glad to see he’s having fun,” she said close to Tristan’s ear. He had his arms wrapped loosely around her waist as they slowly swayed from side to side despite the medium tempo. “He just broke up with someone yesterday.”

Tristan glanced over to where Terry was dancing and wearing a huge grin. “He doesn’t look very torn up about it.” His breath tickled her ear as he spoke, his voice deep and smooth like velvet, causing a shiver to travel up and down her spine, and she wondered what else he could do to her with other parts of him if just his voice had this much of an effect on her.

“As he shouldn’t,” Riley managed to say after barely composing herself. “His ex-boyfriend is Kevin’s brother, the guy you saw me with at the coffee shop.”

Tristan threw his head back and laughed. She felt the rumble in his chest, anticipating what he would say next just so she could feel his warm breath tingle on her skin again. “Not a match made in heaven either then, I gather?”

She shook her head.

Tristan brought his head close to hers, skimming his nose against her own. She was grateful for the added height tonight with her four-inch heels, though he still had to bend somewhat. At five foot four inches tall and the fact that she usually wore boots or shoes with some sort of heel, she never really felt all that petite, despite being right at the cusp. Tristan was just extremely tall, taller than anyone she’d ever dated. Somehow, with the way his arms were wrapped around her, his body close, heat rising between them, he made her feel protected. No one had ever made her feel that way before, not really. Her dad and now Terry were the only two people she’d ever really trusted. With everyone else, she always wore a tough exterior, spikes and barbed wire, to ward off anyone who tried to mess with her.

Could she possibly let this man break through all that?

He lifted her chin so she would look at him. She saw the question of permission in his eyes, and with a slight nod, she gave it to him. Her eyes closed, their lips met, tentatively at first, and she opened for him, their tongues meeting half way. His lips were soft and the dance his tongue was doing with hers was slow and sensual. Soon, the kiss became deeper, bolder. She could feel his length hardening against her as he pulled her in closer, her own body reacting and filling with need for him.

His kisses became more playful after a while, nipping at her top and bottom lip in turn until he pulled away from her completely. He looked suddenly angry as he stepped back from Riley, putting a gap of distance between them.

Riley turned, following his line of sight and immediately saw the reason for his anger.

Excerpt:

We knocked the liquor back, and our gazes met as we set the glasses on the bar.

“How old are you?” Nicky asked, his attention snagging on my lips.

“Twenty-eight.”

He scrubbed a hand over the beard lining his jaw while looking away. “So damn young.”

“Not too young.” Gauntlet thrown, I waited for his attention to return to my face. Eyes full of lust, a leashed animal that ought to scare the shit out of me but didn’t.

“I’m no good.”

I cocked my head and slid my gaze down over him, not missing the hard length straining against his leathers. “Look pretty damn good to me.”

His low groan rushed need through me again, and I knew I’d leave a wet spot on the stool once I got up.

“You’re messing with fire, little girl.”

Heat flushed through me. “I enjoy flames now and then.” My breath caught at the hunger on his face, parting my lips.

“Fuck it.” He grasped my chin in his warm palm. “I’ll give you what you want, little girl, but don’t go crying to your mommy in the morning because a big bad wolf left his mark on you.”

Oh, God. I swallowed and squeezed my thighs together. Older men were so the shit.

He captured my lips, but without the brute force I’d expected. Hunger, yes, but the full softness of his lips pressed against mine, taking and tasting, his tongue probing, whiskers brushing my skin. I parted my lips and moaned as he sank his tongue into my mouth, fucking every hidden corner, filling me with the taste of whiskey and pure male. My skin pebbled, pulse thrummed.

“Goddamn.” Nicky stood and yanked me off the stool. Virile, pure hardness and muscle beneath the leather hiding his skin from my grasping hands. His fingers fisted in my long hair, tangling and yanking my head to the side, the other grabbing my ass and hauling me against his huge cock.

He crouched down slightly and pulled me up. My legs wrapped around him as though having a mind of their own—even though I had been thinking about getting him between my legs all night long.

His beard brushed along my neck as he breathed me in and licked from my collarbone to my ear. “You smell like a fucking spring day. Innocent.”

“I’m h-hardly an innocent,” I gasped as he bit my earlobe and ground his cock against my sopping jeans.

“Thank God, because I want to be balls deep inside of you. Now.”

He thrust, and I moaned, my fingers grasping at his t-shirt.

“Tell me to stop,” he whispered harshly in my ear.

“No way in hell.”

With a growl, he squeezed my ass to the point of pain. “I haven’t wanted a woman like this in a long fucking time.”

“So take what you want.”

“Goddamn.” He rested his forehead on mine. “Right here?”

I slithered a hand between us to grasp the hardness inside his leathers. “Right now.”

“Fuck.” Like my five-foot-six frame and thirty extra pounds meant nothing, he spun me around. “Hands on the bar.”

I did as told, bending at the waist and putting my ass on display with a little wiggle.

“Don’t move,” he said while peeling off his leather jacket.

My legs trembled, and I turned my head to watch as he moved to the front door and flicked off the lights.

The streetlight half a block away barely cut through the storm, but the flash of lightning lit Nicky up as he stalked back toward me, shedding his t-shirt.

Broad shoulders … another flash filled my eyes with tanned skin stretched tight over massive pecs and abs a twenty-year-old guy would kill for.

I licked my lips, hoping for another flash of light, but Nicky palmed my waist and leaned over my back, his cock pressed against my ass, the heat of his skin searing me through my shirt.

My eyelids fluttered shut as he wrapped his fingers around my hair again and tilted my head back.

“Last chance, Mel.” His rumbling voice and hot breath against my ear brought a moan past my lips.

“Take me,” I managed to whisper and licked my dry lips. “Please.”

Just the right amount of friction, and a chance encounter, and a lot of heat sparks will change them both. Will they be able see past their individual goals in order to claim a once in a lifetime prize?

*****

EXCERPT:

Ethan tipped his hat, bowing to her. “Thank you for the dance,” he rumbled.

“Yeah! Whoohoo! That’s what I’m talking about!” Dana shouted from the sidelines.

“Oh, my god,” Christina said on a laugh, bending at the waist, feeling slightly embarrassed.

She’s Everything, by Brad Paisley, started playing and couples moved their way back onto the dance floor. “May I have another?” he asked her, holding out his hand.

“If you don’t dance with him, I will!” Dana shouted again. Christina waved at her friend, then took Ethan’s hand.

He pulled her in close, so close that their bodies were touching. Her hands automatically went to his chest as his arms wrapped around her waist. He moved slowly, looking down at her the entire time. His stare was so intense that Christina couldn’t hold it, so she laid her head on his chest. Even though she’d only just met him, she was comfortable being this close to him. Right then, he wasn’t a complete stranger, but someone she’d known forever. She knew all she needed to know about him. She could hear him singing low, the timbre rumbling in his chest. She could hear his heart beating and she could smell him. Lord, she could smell him. Soap and man. Her insides turned to mush and really, she just wanted to take him in the back and jump his bones.

Why couldn’t she? Christina was leaving the next day. It wasn’t like she was going to see him again. Ignoring the pang in her heart, she lifted her head to look up at him. He was still staring down at her. His full lips curled into a small smile, exposing a dimple in his left cheek. She rose up on her toes, pulling his head down. Ethan tipped his hat, covering both of their faces, and then he kissed her.

His lips touched hers and a slow burn spread throughout her body. Every nerve ending in was alive and firing at the same time. His kiss was soft and gentle, teasing her until she sucked his lower lip into her mouth. He moaned softly, cupped her cheek in his hand, and then pushed his tongue into her mouth. Christina could taste the faint hint of whiskey on him, but more than that was his taste. She twisted her fingers in the back of his too-long hair, holding him closer to her. When he broke the kiss, she wanted to scream, but she realized the song had ended. She knew what she was thinking was a bad idea, yet she was going to do it anyway.

****

Ethan could have kissed her forever, he decided as he looked down into her stormy grey eyes. “Thank you,” he said.

Christina smiled mischievously at him and took his hand. “Come with me,” she commanded.

He would have followed her anywhere.

She led him toward the back, past the restrooms and into a darkened hallway. “Where are we going?” he asked.

“Right here,” she said, pushing him against the wall. She grabbed his face and pulled him down for another kiss. Ethan was all too happy to oblige.

She tasted of lemon but underneath that was the sweetest wine. Sucking on her tongue, he savored her taste, holding her hips still. She broke the kiss and began kissing his neck. Ethan’s head tipped back and a moan escaped him. She was going to kill him. He knew it. She continued her sweet torture and he knew he would never survive it.

Unable to take it anymore, he switched their positions so she was against the wall. She looked up at him with fire in her eyes and he knew he was right. Her lips were swollen and wet and he couldn’t resist another taste. But this time, he didn’t stay there. He kissed his way along her jaw to her neck, sucking and nibbling down to her collar bone.

“Not here,” she said.

Ethan realized that they were getting into it pretty heavy and even though they were hidden, anyone could come walking by. They were in public. In a bar. Which brought on another thought. “How much have you had to drink?” he asked.

She raised a brow at him. “Seriously?”

Ethan shook his head. “Look, there’s nothing I want more than to throw you in my truck, take you back to my hotel, and make you scream my name all night. But I can’t if you’re drunk. So please, tell me; how much have you had to drink?”

“What makes you think I want to go with you?” she asked, straightening her spine and brushing her skirt down. “Just so you know, I’ve had one shot and a half a beer. But no worries, this was a bad idea anyway.”

“Wait,” he said when she turned to walk away. “I just wanted to make sure you weren’t going to regret it in the morning.”

“I don’t do regrets.” She put her hands on her hips. “Now, are you gonna throw me in that truck or not?”

Ethan didn’t need any more encouragement. He leaned down and scooped her up, tossing her over his shoulder then walked out of the bar caveman style.

Mid Week Tease: “It’s not you I’m worried about, Anneke. It’s me.” #ComingInHot2 #CIH2 #CIHcollection

mid-week-tease-buttonHi everyone,

Welcome back to Mid Week Tease! This week I’m continuing to share from my story, A Werewolf State of Mind, which features in the just-released Coming in Hot 2: Rescue Me boxed set. The set is now available exclusively on Amazon, and you can read it for free as part of your Kindle Unlimited subscription.

Coming in Hot 2: Rescue Me“Then thoughts started crowding into my head about what I would do when I caught him. I wanted to sink my teeth into his neck, and rip him to shreds, splash his blood everywhere.” He stopped then, and rubbed the fingertips of his right hand over the center of his forehead, then pressed them so hard into the skin that when he removed them the area remained white for a couple of seconds. “God, this is so messed up. Saying it out loud only makes it sound more bizarre.”

Leaning forward in her chair, Anneke said, “Caleb, it’s all right, honestly. I know this is difficult for you, but I can only help if you tell me everything, no matter how bizarre you think it sounds.” The truth, of course, was that she already knew how to help him, but she couldn’t do it yet. He had to believe, and hopefully her encouraging him to describe his experiences verbally would allow them to sink into his consciousness. Sometimes all it took was a different way of presenting things in order for it to make sense to someone. It was certainly worth a try, anyway.

His gaze fixed on the carpet, he nodded. “I know. It’s just… it was bad enough inside my head, but saying it out loud seems to have made it a hundred times worse. You couldn’t make this stuff up.”

She gave a gentle smile, even though he was still looking at the floor. Hopefully it would shine through in her voice. “I can handle it, Caleb, don’t worry.”

With what looked like a gargantuan amount of effort, he tore his gaze from the carpet and met her eyes. His lips twisted into a wry smile. “It’s not you I’m worried about, Anneke. It’s me.”

Her heart skipped a beat as they maintained eye contact, and she hurriedly shifted her hands to the arms of her chair and squeezed tightly to redirect her energy and focus.

Keep You SafeKeep You Safe by CR Moss

BLURB:

I’m Professor Arianna Perez, and I’ve been asked if I’ll ever trust, let alone love, another man again. After dumping an abusive boyfriend, I doubted I would. At least, that’s how I felt until fate had sexy wrangler, Kian Bishop, reappearing in my life in a way I never expected.

Against my better judgement, I fell hard for the cowboy, believing everything he said, including how he wanted to treat me like a queen and keep me safe. Little did I know, though, that the circumstances that’d brought us together could also tear us apart…and possibly claim my life.

*****

EXCERPT:

Kian sat back and rubbed his chin. “He’s still bothering you?”

Nodding, I continued to breathe deep to allay my anxiety. “Kind of.”

“He sounds like a jerk. If you were mine, I’d treat you like a queen. I’d do anything I could to keep you safe and free from harm.”

“If I were yours?” God, how I wanted to believe that a man would do that. Be a true gentleman, someone who would treat me right, someone I could trust not turn into a pig. Even if Kian spoke the truth, there were other factors to consider. “You do remember there’s an age gap between us, right? That I’m older than you?”

He lifted a shoulder again. “So? We’re both adults. ‘Consenting’ adults. I hated that my family moved, and I couldn’t see you anymore. That I only had you in my fantasies.”

“Wait. What?” This time I couldn’t hide the surprise on my face. “You fantasized about me?”

“All the time.” He chuckled, and pink tinged his cheeks. “I thought you were the prettiest woman I’d ever seen, and I was a hormonal teen. I wasn’t joking before when I said you’re beautiful.”

Compliments. Wants. Desires. The claims coming from him made my breath catch on such an intense wave of yearning it almost hurt.

‘Oh, Lord, what kind of spell is this man weaving over me?’

“I appreciate the sentiment, but like I’d said, you could have your pick. Why would you want an older lady with ten to twenty extra pounds on her frame?” Under my breath, I couldn’t stop myself from adding, “Chad used to say no man wanted a chubby-wubby.”

Kian pursed his lips. “We’ve already established that Chad’s a tool. Me? I think you’re perfect the way you are. You don’t need to lose a pound.” He smiled. His gaze softened. “God, I really want to kiss you.”

“Really?”

“Yeah.”

Before I knew it, he leaned across the table, gently palmed my cheek and placed his lips on mine. Hungry desire flooded me. I couldn’t deny my body’s response or the fact that I was seriously attracted to Kian. I wanted the kiss to deepen, but luckily, I had enough wits about me to not go crazy with the public display of affection.

Then, as quick as it started, it ended. He sat back, taking any decisions I might have had to make out of my hands.

“Thank you,” he said. “I’ve wanted to do that for ages.”

More heat blossomed in my face. I couldn’t believe how much I’d been blushing. His attentions and presence made me feel like a silly, teenager in the throes of my first crush.

Heat Sink by Cecile Tellier

BLURB:

Christian Harrington went to work every day as a steamfitter at the local nuclear energy plant with some expectation of danger. When Christian meets fiery bartender Roxy McVee he quickly realizes he may have met his match. Unfortunately, Christian is not the only person with their sights set on Roxy.

Roxy McVee had wanted a fresh start. Slinging drinks and telling jokes at the local bar in Upstate NY seemed like a great way to go. Her decision is rewarded when serious but sexy as hell Christian Harrington walked into the bar with his friends after work. Roxy’s immediate reaction to him leads her to become comfortable around him. Unfortunately, the reason for Roxy’s move proves that the saying that the things one resist, persist is true. Roxy and Christian must navigate a potentially deadly landmine in the form of one very dangerous visitor from her past.

*****

EXCERPT:

“I actually love most food, and I’m not a vegetarian. Do you cook for ladies often? Never mind. You don’t have to answer that. I don’t even know why I asked.” Shaking her head, Roxy could feel her face flush. Why did she asked such a personal question?

“I don’t mind answering. You’re the first non-relative female I’ve cooked for, or invited over for that matter. I work a lot. It doesn’t leave me a lot of time to host get-togethers with the fairer sex.” His wry expression caused goosebumps  to rise over her arms.

“Well, I’m glad I happened to meet you at the right time, then.” Roxy was unused to the butterflies floating around in her stomach at his response.

“What about you? I know what Manny said, but I’m assuming you’ve got a pretty steady stream of date offers.” Christian plate before putting a bite in his mouth.

“I do, but you’re actually the first I’ve accepted in a few years.” She followed suit by eating some of her lasagna.

“Why did you accept mine?” His voice was soft, and he was no longer eating but watching her closely.

“I…it’s hard to explain. You felt right. I don’t mean in the literal sense. You just weren’t someone I wanted to say no to.” She took another bite out of nervousness, but closed her eyes at the taste of melted ricotta and paremsian cheese blending with the perfectly cooked lasagna noodles and a red sauce she would bet was home made.

“This is amazing by the way.” Changing the subject seemed like the best choice at the time. Roxy wasn’t comfortable with spilling her guts on the first date, even if she meant everything she’d said.

“Thank you, I watched a video on how to make my own sauce. The rest is pretty easy.” He shrugged but took another bite.

They ate the rest of their meal, talking about their respective work.

“Do you get a lot of Homer Simpson jokes when you tell people you work at nuclear reactors?” Roxy helped him load the dishwasher and accepted the cold beer he offered.

“No, mainly because I don’t actually work in the operation of it. I’m there to make sure their systems that create and carry the steam power through the reactor stay safe and functional. Most of the time, I’m in there is for planned maintenance or during shutdowns for renovations.”

“Well, that makes sense then. Do you like donuts, though?” Roxy couldn’t resist.

Christian laughed and nodded. “I do, in fact like donuts, but I don’t eat them much. Want to see something great?”

Before Roxy could agree, he was leading her upstairs to an open loft area that led to one of the wraparound deck doors. Once outside, they were treated to a full view of the moon and stars in the night sky.

“Wow, that’s beautiful. Do you spend a lot of time out here?” Roxy leaned against the railing and inhaled the smell of lilacs growing around the property.

Christian put his hands on either side of her on the deck and spoke from behind her. “I do, it’s where I recalibrate myself.”

“Oh, talk steamfitter to me.” Roxy shivered but pressed back so that her back was flush against his chest and pressed against him rather than just caged by his arms.

“Hmm, fire caulk…” Christian’s arms wrapped around her and she felt his chin rested on the top of her head.

Roxy erupted into giggles and hugged his arms to her. “You’re the whole package aren’t you Christian?”

“I don’t know what you mean.” Christian nuzzled her ear, the tingles moving from the affected part down her body to less directly involved places.

“You work hard, you’re talented, you’re smart, and you have a sense of humor. What’s your downside?” She pushed into his wayward mouth and bit her lip.

Christian nibbled on her earlobe and murmured, “Most likely that I’m slow to decide things but when I do want something I’m pretty laser focused.”

The vibration of his voice against her skin pulled an involuntary moan from her lips. “I would say that’s a bonus in most things.”

“You’d have to let me know, since I’m focused on you.” Roxy shivered hard at the words and arched back against him.

“I’d say from where I’m standing, it’s pretty fuckin awesome.”
