Little RainbowsThank you for welcoming me on your blog today, Lucy. I’m delighted to spend one day during my release party for Little Rainbows with you and your followers.

And talking about parties; everybody loves a good party – right? Well, maybe not.

I’m not quite sure what possessed me when I decided to make Heather – my female protagonist – a party planner. If there are people less equipped to write about parties than me, I’ve yet to meet them. To say I’m not overly fond of parties would be a gross understatement. I’m no good in crowds. A large number people gathered together – especially in a confined space – makes me feel claustrophobic.  I’m okay if I know most, if not all, the people I’m with. Throw me in the middle of a group of strangers and I’ll do my very best to become invisible.

I envy people who can walk up to strangers and kick start a conversation about just about any subject. For some reason I never learned how to do that, or maybe it’s a gift I wasn’t granted – I don’t know. All I do know is that being an introvert, somewhat insecure, and more than a little bit shy, means that parties aren’t always a fun experience for me.

On the other hand, because I’m lousy at mixing with people, I tend to keep busy during parties. I’ll happily supply people with drinks, make sure there’s enough nibbles to keep everybody from getting hungry, and pick the right music to reflect the mood surrounding me.

So maybe making Heather a party planner was not as farfetched as it seemed at first glance. Having lost her husband eighteen months ago, Heather has no interest in attending parties either. Resurrecting the party planning business she’d made a success with her late husband, is a priority though. And, organising a big event and being part of it, forces her to step out of her lonely comfort zone.

Of course Heather has no way of knowing that the job she’s taken on will lead to much more than just interacting with the world again. She’s about to get pushed much further out of her comfort zone than she could possibly have imagined. But then again, that is often the case in life – and at parties. They can so easily bring us much more than we expect, provided we’re brave enough to embrace the experience.

Excerpt:

There it was, her opportunity to kick-start her life again. And, as restarts went, it made quite an impression. The hotel or club—she wasn’t quite sure how to label the building—looked rather grand at the end of the long drive. The Atlantic Ocean, throwing up a spray in the distance, only enhanced the picture. Even on this bright summer’s day she could see small rainbows in the watery mist the waves were producing. It would be easy to confuse this place with any of the up-market tourist traps the west coast of Ireland was peppered with. This could be any other posh resort catering to Americans trying to find their roots and golfers looking for an opportunity to try the links courses littered along the coastline. The heavy gate blocking the entrance told a different story. She knew too much about this place, its purpose and what happened behind those gates to confuse it for anything except what it was, a dream from the past and—if everything went according to plan—the start of the rest of her life.

She’d been looking at the building, the grounds, the gate and the little buzzer on the intercom box for a few minutes. If anybody on the inside happened to be keeping an eye on the entrance through those security cameras, they would have decided she was either scared or crazy by now—and they’d be right. She was apprehensive. Her hands were clasped together, her fingers worrying her wedding ring. After eighteen months of virtually living like a hermit, coming here felt like diving in headfirst. Still, if she’d had any doubts about leaving Dublin, that surprise visitor two weeks ago and his shocking proposal had taken care of those.

The bastard. She refused to even think his name. It still bothered her he’d had the nerve to show up at her door like that. Where would he have gotten the idea she’d be open to his suggestions? It had been clear that he’d expected her to embrace his offer—or should she call it an order—with open arms. His delusions of grandeur must have gotten the better of him, or he’d confused her with someone she clearly wasn’t. She didn’t get it. Even before her self-inflicted confinement, she’d made a point of staying away from him. Why would he think she’d changed her mind about him just because she was on her own? She didn’t know but lingering on that memory right now didn’t serve any purpose. She didn’t want him in her thoughts, especially not now. It would only make her more nervous than she already was.

She’d thought this place would be the perfect setting for her return to the BDSM world she’d been ignoring for well over a year. Now that the moment was close, now that she had to take this last step out of her confinement, the first step into her future, she couldn’t help second-guessing herself. Was she really ready to move forward? Could she do it on her own? She’d never been a part of this lifestyle without her husband and his loving support.

With a sigh she lifted her hand and pressed the little button. She’d come this far. She hadn’t driven the five hours from Dublin only to turn away at the last hurdle. If she gave up now, it would be the end of the business they’d built together. If she chickened out of this, there would be no way of ever going back on her own terms. Going forward scared the shit out of her but going back frightened her even more. She could do this. She’d promised she would take this step. Breaking her word was not an option, no matter how scared she was.

Helena Stone can’t remember a life before words and reading. After growing up in a household where no holiday or festivity was complete without at least one new book, it’s hardly surprising she now owns more books than shelf space while her Kindle is about to explode.

The urge to write came as a surprise. The realisation that people might enjoy her words was a shock to say the least. Now that the writing bug has well and truly taken hold, Helena can no longer imagine not sharing the characters in her head and heart with the rest of the world.

Having left the hustle and bustle of Amsterdam for the peace and quiet of the Irish Country side she divides her time between reading, writing, long and often wet walks with the dog, her part-time job in a library, a grown-up daughter and her ever loving and patient husband.

My Sexy Saturday #63 – Our Sexy Tomorrow #MySexySaturday

My Sexy Saturday

Welcome back to My Sexy Saturday. This is where writers post either 7 words, 7 sentences or 7 paragraphs from their published work or work in progress. This week I’m sharing another snippet from my M/M erotic romance story, Fired Up, which appears in Uniform Fetish: Manlove Edition – it follows on directly from last week’s.

Letting out a laugh that came right from his belly, Lucas shook his head. “No, I don’t. But, um, at the risk of sounding insensitive, how is it going to work?”

“Oh, down there?” Greg pointed at his crotch. “Everything works just fine for me. I can even feel my legs. They just don’t work all that well at the moment. But I’m sure we can find workarounds for the time being, right?” When Lucas nodded, he continued, “To avoid any further delays, yes, I have lube and condoms. So, if it’s not too much trouble, sexy fireman, could you carry me to my bedroom?”

Half-wondering if he was in some kind of incredibly vivid dream, Lucas nodded, then stood up. Reaching down, he lifted Greg out of the wheelchair and made his way upstairs, careful not to whack his left leg on the stair lift that was Greg’s usual way of getting to the upper floor of his house.

The Importance of Getting the Girl by Angelique Voisen (@frances_ac)

MerchandiseI’m a Joss Whedon fan girl. Two of my favorite sci-fi shows of all time are Firefly and Dollhouse. I also have to confess the little muse in my head kept on badgering me and ultimately pushed me to writing a rough outline of Merchandise right after finishing my fourth run of Firefly.

There’s just something compelling and fun about the space opera genre— limitless possibilities of world building, alien species with extra juicy bits, and inventing gadgets with wacky names. Merchandise was born from the desire to write a  hot menage set in space, with a twist in the end.

One of the things I’d always liked about Whedon’s shows? Most of the protagonists start out as society’s outsiders trying to fulfill some greater purpose. Sadly, answering a higher calling demands a great price— letting thier love lives take a huge hit. Most of the time, they end up not getting the girl (or guy) because he/she either got a) pierced by a couple of wires, Matrix style, or because of b) some supernatural curse or another.

In Merchandise, the two male protagonists come from two different alien races who hold a centuries-old grudge against each other. As outlaws, they exist on the fringes of society. Just when they’re about to take one last job and retire, things don’t go as planned. They’re thrown right into a hot platenary mess and soon find out they’re way out of thier league.

Thankfully though? They do end up getting the girl in the end.

Merchandise Blurb: Unlikely mates Brale and Dyos are space bounty hunters who exist outside the intergalactic planetary laws. Their two races might hold a centuries-old grudge against each other, but war is far from their agenda. They simply go where the space credits goes. When a wealthy client hires them to acquire rare merchandise from a cargo ship, Brale and Dyos leap at the opportunity for easy cash.

The hunters get more than they’ve bargain for when they discover the merchandise is a rare human female breeder. For Brale and Dyos, J is the perfect woman, but when certain politics come into play, J comes with a hefty price tag the two outlaws might not be able to pay.

Excerpt:

“Do you trust us?” the Hadarian asked in a soft voice.

He didn’t appear concerned by the chaos occurring in front of them. None of them were. Farr’s harsh voice and the concerned murmurs from the crowd faded away. The only sound J heard came from the harsh thudding of her heart as the Hadarian gently touched her. He brushed the curve of her left cheekbone, the line of her jaw, and the column of her throat with his fingertips. His fingers shook, betraying a hunger he obviously tried to hide from her.

These two wanted her, J realized with shock, wanted her with a consuming hunger so stark it was almost painful. Worse still, the way her body leaned and hungered for more of their touches told J her own hunger was a haunted reflection of theirs.

“I trust you,” J whispered, surrendering the gun to the Hadarian.

“Thank you.” The Hadarian relieved her of her task of pressing the gun to her forehead. For a moment, fear clouded J.

“You wouldn’t dare kill her,” Farr sneered.

The Hadarian didn’t look daunted one bit. “Shall we make a bet, Farr? Will you risk losing your expensive captive in front of your entire people for the sake of your pride?”

Farr looked like he’d been struck. Gael whispered something furiously in his ear while his men looked clearly unsettled.

Gods of the Galaxy. Did she horribly misinterpret the situation and the prisoners planned on using her as a means of escape?

Another painful migraine pounded at her head again. The Cobrini dispelled any inkling of panic by molding himself against the curve of her naked back. Fog-like memories slipped into her mind, still all smoky and insubstantial, but J realized she did know the touch of these two men and the sound of their voices.

“I can see through your ruse, traitor. I’ve watched your sordid little moment in the holding cells. You and your Cobrini lover value this Breeder as much as I,” Farr said, his tone a mixture of distaste and something else J didn’t expect. Jealousy, and not of the mild variety either. Farr’s usually handsome face became contorted with fury.

The pressure of the metal barrel on her forehead increased, but fear and worry no longer misted J’s mind. She swore she’d see this episode through the end and finally unravel her mysterious connection to these two men no matter the cost.

The Cobrini behind her spoke. “Like you said, Farr. We space pirates don’t have many morals to begin with. When you shove a man in a cage and leave him there to rot, he can grow really desperate, and men without options learn to be creative.”

Mid Week Tease: “I didn’t have a clue.” #MWTease

MWTease15Hi everyone,

Welcome back to Mid Week Tease! This week, I’m sharing another snippet from Fired Up, which appears in the just-released anthology, Uniform Fetish: Manlove Edition.

Uniform Fetish: Manlove EditionGreg looked down at his legs with a wry expression, then back up at Lucas. “Believe it or not, I broke my back in a skiing accident. Fucking ridiculous, huh? We’ve battled arseholes and terrorists together in the desert and managed to stay in one piece, but put me on a snowy hill and this is what happens.”

Shaking his head, Lucas said, “I’m really sorry, mate. I don’t mean to stand here gawping, but I just can’t get my head around it. I didn’t have a clue.”

“Why would you?” His gaze shifted briefly to the woman, then back. “You left the army; we lost touch. I left the army and took a little bit of time out, and this was my reward. Seems I would have been safer dodging IEDs and suicide bombers.”

Lucas recognized the sarcastic humor his old friend was employing, but he couldn’t bring a smile to his lips—his whirling brain wouldn’t allow it. How was it possible that his old comrade, his friend, a fantastic soldier, had been paralyzed in the pursuit of leisure? It just didn’t compute.

My Sexy Saturday #62 – Sexy Me Up #MySexySaturday

My Sexy Saturday

Welcome back to My Sexy Saturday. This is where writers post either 7 words, 7 sentences or 7 paragraphs from their published work or work in progress. This week I’m sharing another snippet from my M/M erotic romance story, Fired Up, which appears in Uniform Fetish: Manlove Edition – it follows on directly from last week’s.

“Like what, Greg? You’re still you. You just sit on your arse all of the time.” He winked. “Seriously, though, even if you never walk again, I’ll still want you. It doesn’t make the slightest bit of difference to me. But I know you. You will walk again. I don’t know when, but I’ll be here when you do. If that’s what you want.”

Nodding profusely, Greg wheeled himself closer. “Yes. Yes. But … that’s not all I want.”

Lucas raised his eyebrows in a question. “It isn’t?”

“No.” A wicked grin spread across Greg’s face. “You know how I said you looked hot in that uniform? Well, I meant it. But I’d also rather like to see what you look stripping out of it. And fucking me. Christ, we’ve experienced enough sexual tension to last several lifetimes. I think we should give in to it, so we can move on with slightly clearer heads.” He tipped Lucas a wink. “I say slightly because, well, we’ve got a lot of time to make up for. I don’t think once is going to be enough. Do you?”
