Since the publication of the first Holmes story, A Study in Scarlet (1887) the tall, hawk-nosed detective with the caped greatcoat, brilliant mind, and a taste for opera has never lost popularity. Almost as soon as film was invented, Holmes hit the screen (Sherlock Holmes Baffled, 1900) and he’s never left. According to Wikipedia, the Guinness World Records has consistently listed Sherlock Holmes as the “most portrayed movie character” with more than 70 actors playing the part in over 200 films.

Rathbone_as_Holmes_-_F&RWhen I was young the most famous Holmes was Basil Rathbone, a portrayal I never particularly cared for. He seemed overly arrogant and pompous.  To me, the best Holmes was Jeremy Brett in the beautifully produced and acted Granada Television series (1984-94).

Robert Downey Jr. plays Holmes as scruffy and antisocial, while Benedict Cumberbatch’s modern day Sherlock is edgy, tech-savvy, and self-aware, describing himself as “a high functioning sociopath” (with a touch as Asperger’s I believe).

So Sherlock as a character has shown himself to be mutable; he can change with the times.

Who’s your favorite Sherlock? Why?

In my version, Sherlock has an active sex life, but a bored Sherlock is a dangerous Sherlock. His twin vices of cocaine and sex could prove his undoing, until he meets his match in elusive, enigmatic Irene Adler. Hiding her heart, Irene deserts Sherlock in the midst of their affair. He schemes to win her back, but the lady won’t come easily to hand. Instead, she forces him to compete for honor, glory and  love.

We banged against each other hard, wildly, with no rhythm, but frantically, mindless animals seeking completion. My breath came in grunts and pants, and Sherlock’s chest heaved against me as I jerked and bucked. We slid against each other, slippery with sweat before he grabbed my wrists and pinned them high against the headboard. He began to ride me in earnest, with a steadiness that drew me into his rhythm. When we were moving in tandem he released my wrists and dropped his head to kiss my mouth, thrusting his tongue inside when his rod reached deep.

He reached for my legs, drawing them high and setting my ankles on his shoulders before slapping my ass-cheek in cadence with his thrusts. I tore my lips away from his and gasped, “Sherlock!”

He laughed. “I’m not hurting you, am I?”

“No, but—“

Mid Week Tease: “Bend over the dresser” #MWTease

Welcome back to Mid Week Tease. This week I’m sharing a tease from my novel, Stately Pleasures, a ménage BDSM erotic romance.

‘Bend over the dresser, please, Alice.’

Looking at him with wide eyes, she was just about to ask why when he raised an eyebrow. Fearful of upsetting him and causing him to call time on their mutually beneficial agreement, she did as he asked.

‘Alice,’ he said softly. She could hear him moving behind her. ‘Press your forehead to the dresser, and keep it there.’

More confused than ever, she complied, feeling ridiculous. She couldn’t stop her brain from working overtime. Surely this wasn’t the first challenge? They weren’t in the right room – if the challenges were listed in order, that was – and she hadn’t seen any of the relevant props. But she supposed there were more than enough hiding places for them in this room. One of the reasons she’d always adored old houses like this was the number of cool hidey-holes scattered throughout.

Hands grasped the hem of her skirt and lifted it up over her waist, exposing her. She was bent far enough over that there was no risk of it slipping back down of its own accord.

‘I’m glad you wore a skirt today, Alice,’ Jeremy said. ‘And I’m sure Ethan is too.’

The two men sniggered behind her back, and she felt her cheeks – the ones on her face – grow hot. Not only were they both staring at her bare backside, they were making subtle references to what she and Ethan had done earlier. So he did know! And, apparently, didn’t mind.

Why I Write BDSM – BDSM Blog Hop! #BDSMhop

bdsmbloghopbadgeWelcome to the BDSM Blog Hop, which is all about raising awareness of various practises, and educating those that want to learn more about BDSM and the lifestyle.

I thought a good way for me to do this would be to put up a post on why I write BDSM. I never used to, you see. When I first started writing erotica and erotic romance, I kept it pretty vanilla – usually between a man and a woman, though not necessarily in a bed. Thinking about it, the first story I had published took place in an army truck!

I didn’t understand BDSM, and I didn’t really like reading books that featured BDSM. But now, several years on, my mind has been well and truly opened. I’ve read lots of books about it, researched it – albeit from the comfort of my computer chair – and have now penned several books containing it, including two full-length novels. If you’d told me that five or six years ago, I’d have laughed at you.

Basically, the longer I’ve been in the industry, the more I’ve learned about all kinds of things to do with sex and alternative lifestyles. I’ve always been open-minded, luckily, and I’ve always enjoyed learning new things. So, for me, adding lots of new pairings and genres to my writing CV was a natural progression. Now, I thoroughly enjoy it. I love having different characters with different kinks – or not – to play with, to tease, to taunt, to give them happy endings. Or not. BDSM just opened up a whole new world for me to write in, and now I’m very glad that I did. I think some of my best books and stories are the kinky ones, and my first novel, Stately Pleasures, which is a BDSM ménage erotic romance, is still in the Amazon UK charts over six months after its release.

So yeah, it’s been a learning curve. But wow, what a fun curve it’s been! Carry on hopping to find out more about BDSM in all its guises, find great books about it, and so on. By the time this hop is over, I’ve no doubt you’ll be enlightened – and I’m sure I will have learned more, too, having visited all the other blogs taking part. What a fantastic idea!
