One for My Author/Small Biz Friends – Informal Outdoor Portraits on 22nd August

Hi lovelies,

I’m super-excited about this project I’m involved in with a very talented photographer friend of mine. So, if you’re in the Midlands (England) area (or willing to travel), and have been considering getting headshots done, or having new ones, then check out this amazing opportunity to get them done at an incredibly affordable price and in a very beautiful, unique location.

Here’s the skinny:

Have you been putting off getting professional portraits done (or re-done) for your business? Maybe the thought of going into a soulless, stuffy studio leaves you cold. Completely understandable—and that’s exactly what these sessions are designed to combat. We want to give you a shoot as unique as you and your business/brand are, and for you to be happy and relaxed—even having fun—while it’s taking place.

The “we” in question are Jess Stringer, a professional photographer based just outside Derby, and Lucy Felthouse, a Midlands-based author and small business owner. This joint project has been designed to meet the needs of authors, small business owners, and self-employed people who want a shoot that’s professional without being stiff and awkward, as well as being full of personality—and all at a very affordable price.

Whether you’ve never had professional photos done before, or you’re looking for an update on existing ones, this session is for you! Put yourself in the very capable hands of Jess, who will guide you through a variety of poses, making sure she captures the parts of your personality that you’d like to shine through, as well as highlighting what your business is all about. Bring relevant props, wear whatever you feel comfortable in—this is your shoot, and your business is your baby, so you know best exactly what you want to portray in your images.

These twenty-minute sessions will take place at Derby Arboretum, a location carefully chosen for its stunning scenery, variety of picturesque backdrops, and gorgeous natural light, as well as its proximity to Derby train station, for those using public transport (free on-street parking is available for those coming by car).

So why not invest in your business and your brand, and book a session today? There are very limited spaces available, so don’t delay!

*Please note: Payment must be made in full before your time slot is confirmed.

FAQs

Who are these sessions for?

Although initially designed for authors and self-employed people/small business owners, these sessions would work for anyone looking for informal outdoor portraits that will help their brand and personality shine through.

What exactly am I paying for?

A twenty-minute outdoor shoot by a professional photographer. Then, in a time frame agreed with Jess, you will receive a variety of high resolution, edited photos delivered in an online gallery for you to download, which can then be used on your website, printed materials, social media and beyond.

Is the location accessible?

Yes. The arboretum has asphalt paths which are suitable for wheelchair users or those with reduced mobility. If you are either a wheelchair user or have reduced mobility, please let this be known at time of booking your slot to discuss options, as this may impact access to some of the backdrops on offer.

Are there toilet facilities?

Yes. The park’s facilities include standard accessible toilets and a Changing Places toilet. This enhanced accessible facility features more space, a height-adjustable changing bench, and a hoist. You may need a RADAR key to access the disabled toilets. Alternatively, there are toilets at nearby Derby Train station (for those coming via public transport, it’s probably worth paying a visit before you head to the park’s meeting point, as the toilets are a few minutes’ walk past the meeting point towards the other end of the park), or the Derbion (previously Westfield) shopping centre. We cannot take any responsibility for the availability of the park’s facilities on the day.

Is there anywhere in the park to buy refreshments?

Unfortunately not. The on-site cafe isn’t open on Saturdays, so we highly recommend bringing your own drinks and snacks.

The First Day of the Rest of My Life

As some of you know already, I’m currently on tenterhooks. My New Year’s Resolution this year was to quit my job. And I did it. I’m going it alone as of February 1st!

For part of the time I’ll be writing both fiction and non-fiction. So keep your eye out for new releases – some of the first being The Great Outdoors Volume 2 and I Kissed A Girl: A Virgin Lesbian Anthology Volume 2.

For the rest of the time I will be doing something else I’m good at. For the past four and a half years my day job has been PR & Marketing. So I decided to use that expertise by running my own business – albeit the only employee will be yours truly. I’ve labelled my business Writer Marketing, as most of my clients will be writers, but that doesn’t mean that I won’t work for people that aren’t writers.

Some of this will be creating websites; as you can see from this portfolio I’ve already got a few under my belt! Also, I’ll be doing PR for new releases. This will involve getting reviews, new release coverage, guest blog spots and so on to promote the authors in question and their work. I’m also available to help out with more marketing based stuff, including writing blurbs, social networking and the like. So I’m a bit of a Jill-of-all-trades – within PR & Marketing, at any rate!

So check out the Writer Marketing website, which goes into more detail. And if you think there’s anything I can help you out with, please give me a shout. I’ll answer any queries I can. Feel free to pass this information to anyone you think will find it useful.

Wish me luck!
