Eileen Griffin’s Inspiration for Claiming Ayden

I’ve been asked what my inspiration was when I was writing “Claiming Ayden”. I have a weakness for Alpha males and absolutely love the wolf sub-culture. They’re fascinating animals that are extremely territorial about their packs, travel vast distances to find food and shelter to ensure the health of their packs, but are also one of the few animals that mate for life. When I was developing my story and characters, I kept envisioning the scene from Last of the Mohicans when Hawkeye (played by Daniel Day-Lewis) was racing to rescue his love, Cora. The intensity with which he traverses the distance and landscape to save her has stuck with me all these years – for me, it was a pivotal scene in the movie. It made me wonder how a wolf/human shifter would react to his beloved, in this case Ayden, was captured by his Alpha’s enemy. The story basically wrote itself from there. It was such an awesome and novel experience to create a world and story for them, that I hope to one day continue Ayden and Thane’s story in future novellas 🙂

Thane looked down at Ayden’s white blond hair and felt his chest tighten. He lifted his hand and settled it in the pup’s hair. He had to hold back a moan when he felt a tremor go through the pup’s body the moment his fingers brushed along Ayden’s scalp. Thane tightened his fingers in Ayden’s hair and pulled the younger man’s face to his. Crystal blue eyes stared back at him. Nowhere in them was there any fear or pain. Instead, Thane saw the same expression of surety and desire Ayden had worn when he’d wandered into their camp almost two and a half years ago.

“Thank you for the food, pup. But that’s not the sustenance I need tonight.”

The tremor Thane had felt turned into a shudder as Ayden placed the food and water on the ground. Then in a show of true submission he gently leaned his head into the grasp Thane had on his hair, leaving his neck exposed.

Thane’s cock filled with blood and hardened against his body. His eyes roamed over the battered body of his true mate to check for damage that would prevent him from taking the action he should have completed before they had begun their journey to the winter lands. It all began with a piece of flash fiction, the word was opulent, the word limit two hundred and this flew straight into my head:

The tank was disgustingly opulent. It consumed one wall, floor to ceiling and was decorated with swirling images of shells, coral and sea life all gilded in pearl. The vast array of shimmering colors distracted his eyes momentarily, but nothing could disguise the purpose of the chamber, it was a cage and its captive swam towards the reinforced glass wall, her eyes open wide reciprocating his stare. Her tail swished angrily back and forth, the color of those moving scales so obviously matching the delicate pigment staining the glass barrier.

One word originating from somewhere outside of himself burst through his head “Help!”

He was looking at a mermaid and he could hear her voice as if she had spoken to him.

It resonated right to the depths of his heart.

Well I like to see myself as an infinitely patient single mother and charity manager by day and reader and writer of erotic romance by night. Hi Lucy, thanks so much for inviting me to your blog. You know I love being your guest, it’s always so cosy and warm here and never any shortage of hotties!

MisconductI’ve dropped in to tell you about my new release, Misconduct, the 6th book in my Hot Ice Series. The Hot Ice books are great read in order but it really doesn’t matter as they standalone as individual novels. The team, the Vipers, stays the same but each story follows the love and lust of a new player and a lucky lady (or guy) who captures their interest.

I love writing about these bad boys of the ice, they just keep on demanding to have their stories told and as long as readers keep on enjoying them I’ll keep on writing them.

HiredThe first book in the series is Hired which won Best First Chapter and Best Cover – Readers Choice, D Renee Bagby – and recently hit the #1 spot on the Amazon Erotic Romance Charts. The second book Cross-Checked won Best Sports Romance of 2012 at Sizzling Book Reviews, the 3rd novel Slap Shot is my personal favorite (perhaps because it features the kinky captain of the team!), the 4th, Teamwork, is ménage a trois, what’s not to love about TWO hot hockey players giving it their best shot in the bedroom with one very happy girl? The 5th book, High-Sticked also graced the Amazon Chart recently and rode high in the Gay Romance top 10 for several weeks. High-Sticked is the only m/m book in the series, Todd, a super-star player and all round gorgeous guy, just had to have his story told!

High-StickedNow Misconduct has been released into the world and I’m looking forward to seeing what readers make of the goaltender, Dustin ‘Speed’ Reed. He’s fast and furious, cocky and charming and has a heart of gold. He also has a few dark desires that he just ‘has’ to follow through on. Phew, I lurve him!

When it came to picking a heroine for Misconduct I chose Gina. She’s the daughter of the owner of the Vipers hockey team, Fergal Gunner, and gets well and truly thrown in at the deep end with the players when her father is taken ill and she has to take over. It’s just as well she’s able to handle herself amongst all those testosterone-overdosed guys because before long she’s juggling more than just the team’s books!

Misconduct

Manage the Vipers hockey team! Me? Well, that’s my role now. Shame a gorgeous, cocky-assed goaltender is testing my patience. Sweet cheeks—really, is that any way to refer to the boss? Dustin “Speed” Reed certainly seems to think so.

It’s okay though. I’ll escape to my billionaire father’s paradise retreat. Except Dustin decides to jump on for the ride. Then the tension really heats up, hotter than the scorching midday sun.

I want to slap him and kiss him. Push him away and rip off his clothes. The feeling is mutual—a potent cocktail of anger mixed with lust. I know we shouldn’t. It can’t end well, especially when I’m going give him the sack as soon as I push him out of it.

But what’s the fun in having rules if no one ever breaks them? I’ll take what I can, give him what he wants and worry about balancing the books tomorrow. Surely my heart will be fine.
