Rock My Body (Mondez Series #2) by Lee Piper

Thundering drum beats? Check. Swoon-worthy vocals? Check. Panty-obliterating lead guitarist? Check. Looks like you’re all set for Rock My Body, Book Two in the Mondez series by Lee Piper!

Rock My BodyBlurb:

Twenty-two year old Riley Sears promises herself never to fall in love unless it is with a guy who is long-term boyfriend material. She is not crazy, her psychologist reassures her of that, but when faced with situations she cannot control… Well. Her anxiety skyrockets.

Enter Dominic Mondez, the hottest creature ever to grace pecs and abs. The notorious playboy propositions Riley with the best sex of her life—his words. However, after learning he never sleeps with the same woman twice, Riley’s decision becomes remarkably simple.

No. Way. In. Hell.

Sadly, traversing the murky waters of friends without benefits is far from simple, especially since Dominic is the lead guitarist of local rock band, Mondez. He is also tempestuous, a womanizer, and—even worse—inexplicably jealous. Dominic is bad for Riley in every possible way. Bad, bad, bad.

If only her body would listen.

Excerpt:

He was watching me, I could feel it. My body sensed him long before my head did and started tingling. Everywhere.

Fuck.

Just the thought of him made my heart pound. Traitorous thing. It merrily rammed against my ribcage as soon as I pictured his tall, muscular body and dishevelled, russet hair. My fingers itched to reach out and delve through the soft strands—they remembered what it felt like to tug down on them as he groaned into my open mouth—but I shifted in my seat and sat on them instead. I wasn’t going down that road again, hell no. I was done.

D.O.N.E.

A low chuckle cut through the muted sounds of heavy rock music emanating from inside, its gravely sound resonating with my downstairs department, causing a deep blush to stain my cheeks.

Clearly, I wasn’t fooling anyone.

What in the name of sweet baby Jesus is he even doing here?

I tried so hard to focus on what Sebastian was saying. Thankfully, he held up his end of the conversation despite my unexpected inability to formulate any words. We’d been sitting together for a while without a single awkward pause so I nodded, smiled, and even laughed when required. To be fair, it was a pretty decent pick-up attempt. Well, until he showed up.

Blue eyes burned my skin.

You don’t own me, you don’t own me, you don’t—

I swallowed, steeled myself and then glanced across at him.

Own me.

Dominic was leaning against the wall, his black, button-down shirt almost bursting at the seams. I blamed those insanely strong pecs and biceps. Honestly, they were huge. And the way his dark blue jeans hung enticingly low off narrow hips… Well. It should be illegal. He was going to give someone—AKA me—a cardiac arrest if he wasn’t careful.

I shook my head. With a bottle of beer in one hand and a buxom blonde in the other— this one looked nastier than most—the guy was the physical embodiment of everything I despised. Truly.

If only my body would listen.

Raising the drink to full, kissable lips, he tipped his head back, piercing gaze still locked on me. He then wiped his mouth with the back of his hand, a flicker of emotions I couldn’t identify crossing his face when he noticed my breath catch.

The girl must have registered his distraction too because she started rubbing herself up against him like an overly aroused limpet. Gross. He broke contact with me and looked down at her, a dark smile tugging his lips. After murmuring something in her ear and slapping her on the behind, she giggled. I looked away, that familiar painful knot forming in my stomach once more.

Damn you, Dominic Mondez. Damn you to hell.

This book is full of wit, sarcasm, and it’s a smart and fun romance. –Uncaged Book Reviews on Rock My World

Lee Piper showed us the strength it takes to love someone who is broken and the mental struggle a person battles to just let it all go and live again. Not an easy task, as a real person or as an author writing about imaginary people. To have a reader actually feel a character’s emotions, feel their pain as your own is a challenging feat BUT Lee conquered this task. –Kameron Brook on Rock My World

At thirty-two, and grieving the loss of her second miscarriage, Lee Piper turned to novels—Kylie Scott, to be precise—to escape the pain. Rock My Body was released on June 3, 2017, much to the delight of her global readership.

Mid Week Tease: …now she’d found Rafe, she wanted him. #MWTease

mid-week-tease-buttonHi everyone,

Welcome back to Mid Week Tease! I’m sharing another excerpt from my M/F hot contemporary romance novella, Fast Lust, from the British Bad Boys Boxed Set. This follows on directly from last week’s tease. The set is now available exclusively in the Kindle Unlimited programme, so you can read it as part of that if you’re a subscriber. Alternatively you can 1-click from Amazon in the usual way.

British Bad Boys Boxed SetHe smirked, and the other two men with him—who were, by now, paying attention—sniggered.

Indignation rolling through her, Gloria pulled herself up to her full height—which was probably still a good foot shorter than his—and said, “No, I’m not looking for somewhere to powder my nose. I’m looking for you, Rafe Donovan.” She’d deliberately used his name to unsettle him, and it seemed to work.

The briefest flicker of uncertainty passed over his features, before being replaced with a smug look. “Have we met before? I doubt it, ‘cos I’m pretty sure I would remember you.” He raked his gaze up and down her body, lingering on her breasts, then grinned widely.

Goosebumps broke out all over her skin, but she stood firm, and kept her expression neutral. Stepping forward, she held out a hand over the bike, ignoring the other two men still tinkering with it. “My name’s Gloria Heath. I’m a reporter, and I’ve been given an assignment to write about this weekend’s British Superbikes tournament and the riders taking part in it, with special emphasis on individuals whose back stories might be of particular interest. Which is what has led me to you.”

Narrowing his eyes, Rafe grabbed a nearby rag and scrubbed at his right hand for a moment before reaching out and taking hers. As they shook, he said warily, “Nice to meet you, Gloria. So, what makes you think my back story might be of particular interest?”

As they’d been in physical contact, Gloria had again concentrated hard on keeping her expression neutral, while hormones zipped through her body at an alarming rate and made her heart race once again. Now they were no longer touching, she felt slightly more in control of herself—at the same time desperately wanting to wipe her palm on her trousers. Whether it was an attempt to erase the effect the contact had had, or remove oil and grime from her hand, she wasn’t sure.

She had to tread carefully here. She didn’t want to put the guy’s back up and have him refuse to talk to her. Granted, if he did, she still had two full days and what was left of today to find someone else to focus on for her article, but now she’d found Rafe, she wanted him. In more ways than one, if the reactions in her traitorous body were anything to go by.

Working with Police on Research – A Guest Post by Lisa Mondello (@lisamondello)

Writing crime romances can be difficult.  You never know who is going to you’re your story and you want to get procedure correct if you’re writing about specific special law enforcement agencies.

When I wrote Safe Haven, I knew there were certain things I wanted to do, but I wasn’t sure if they were legal.  Luckily, my husband was a part time police officer in a neighboring town and I knew I lot of police officers I could bounce ideas off of.  Some authors go to the Writer’s Police Academy.  One day maybe I will attend.  But I relied on in house feedback for Safe Haven.

One of the things I quickly learned was that police officers have seen a lot and are suspicious of everything you say.  They have fertile imaginations, too, which made it fun to brainstorm ideas.  I would go down a path with my idea and they would quickly reel me in though when it was clear I wanted to do something that wasn’t plausible.  They’d reel me in.  They wouldn’t give me ideas of what to do.  But if I had an idea, they’d help me flesh it out.

But I had to be careful.  It’s easy to get excited about a new book I’m working on.  I do a lot of Google searches that lead me down paths and help me build on the seed of an idea.  But then when I get that idea, I have to be careful when I call on a professional to ask them questions.  It’s important to preface each call with why I’m asking a question.

For example, in Safe Haven, there is a bloody scene.  I needed to know details about blood, how it’s collected, preserved, how much blood a person could lose to give suspicion that it might be fatal.  You get the idea.  As he scene was coming to me and I realized I needed to know detailed information, I called one of my neighbors who is a medical technologist.  I figured she’d at least be able to lead me in the right direction.  She knows I’m a writer.  We’d sat at enough neighborhood campfires together at that point.

But in my excitement about this scene I was about to write, I neglected to tell my neighbor who I was when she picked up the phone.  I just started rattling off about blood and how I was going to use that blood and asking how much blood a person can drain from their body before it’s fatal.  Well, I think the blood drained for her face even though I couldn’t see it.  She sputtered a bit and then asked who it was on the phone.

We had a little laugh and once her heart stopped pounding so hard, she gave me the info I needed and I wrote my scene.  I made a mental note to myself to make sure I announced myself and what I was calling for before launching into gory details.  I was also thankful that call hadn’t been to the police station.  Even though I know a lot of police officers and they’ve helped me before, I have a feeling I would have had blue lights flashing in my driveway before I finished writing my scene.

Excerpt:

“Your husband hired me to kill you.”

The last words Daria Carlisle expected to hear in her kitchen on a bright and sunny Sunday morning were those. She stared at the man who’d just uttered the frightening words. Words spoken with such ease and comfort it made her blood run cold.

She stood statue still, almost glued to the aged linoleum floor that was too frail to be salvaged. Her gaze swept from his face to the decrepit floor as she dragged in a breath of air. Earlier that day she’d been obsessing over how she was going to afford replacing the linoleum. Hearing these words from a man she’d just invited into her home willingly put a slightly different spin on her priorities.

Your husband hired me to kill you. The words just hung there in the air between them like some bright red cartoon balloon, mocking her.

Call for Submissions: United in Love #charity #anthology #britishredcross #romance

As well as having been completely horrified and distraught by the recent terror attacks in the UK, I’ve also felt quite helpless. The latest attack at London Bridge spurred me into action—I might not be in a position where I can physically help victims, but I can do something. I can put together an anthology where all proceeds go to a charity that will help those affected. So that’s what I’m doing. Please consider writing something for this collection, and do share the call for submissions with anyone you think might be interested. Thank you.

United in Love (tentative title).

I want love stories about unity in the UK. About pulling together in the face of hardship and adversity. About solidarity. About positivity. I want heart-warming tales with a heat level of 3+—so hot romance to erotic romance. No closed-door sex or sweet romance. I’d like stories with a British flavour—so set in Britain. Authors do not have to be British or living in the UK, as long as the story has a British flavour.

I’m not looking for pure erotica, or BDSM/kink/similar. The emphasis is on love stories, and I’m looking to appeal to a wide variety of romance readers in order to maximise sales and therefore monies raised.

Stories should be between 3—6k (there’s a tiny bit of wiggle room, especially if your story is exceptional, but not much), with double quote marks around dialogue, double spaced, indents not tabs, UK spellings, and have been edited to the best of your ability. If you can get someone else to go through it once you’re done, all the better. I will be editing/proof-reading stories that are accepted, but the less work I have to do on that front, the more quickly the anthology can hit digital shelves and start earning money for charity. Stories do not have to be brand new, but they must adhere to the theme, and if they are previously published, please ensure you hold the rights to re-publish.

Which brings me on to the chosen charity. I’ve selected the British Red Cross. They’ve just set up a UK Solidarity Fund to help victims of terror anywhere in the UK—assisting with immediate issues and ensuring that victims and their families do not face short-term financial difficulties. All money raised from sales of the anthology will go directly to them.

I want to move fairly quickly on this, so the deadline is quite short, I’m afraid. Stories should reach me no later than 14th July 2017. Ideally, I would like to publish the collection sometime during August. Please send your story to lucy@lucyfelthouse.co.uk with the subject: United in Love submission. Please refer any questions to the above email address.

Thank you so much for considering this, and please do share widely!

Mid Week Tease: Gloria was stunned into silence as she took him in. #MWTease

mid-week-tease-buttonHi everyone,

Welcome back to Mid Week Tease! I’m sharing another excerpt from my M/F hot contemporary romance novella, Fast Lust, from the British Bad Boys Boxed Set. I’ve skipped ahead a little, though. The set is now available exclusively in the Kindle Unlimited programme, so you can read it as part of that if you’re a subscriber. Alternatively you can 1-click from Amazon in the usual way.

British Bad Boys Boxed SetShe found the garages without too much trouble, and after asking a couple more people for further directions, she finally located 19—otherwise known as Rafe Donovan. Who, despite the first man’s reluctance to divulge gossip, she now knew had a story, as well as no outside funding. It wouldn’t fill many column inches at the moment, but at least it gave her a jumping-off point.

Passing into the gloom of the garage-cum-workshop, which was indeed, in the arse end of nowhere—she’d long since passed the areas given over to the biggest teams—she gave her eyes a moment to adjust to the light before approaching the three men clustered around the Kawasaki. They were so engrossed in their work that they didn’t notice her.

After a moment, though, the man himself looked up from his task and wiped the back of his hand across his forehead—leaving an oily streak—and spotting her in the process. A slight frown on his face, he stood up and met her gaze, a glint of interest in his eyes. “Hello, can I help you?”

Gloria was stunned into silence as she took him in. He’d unzipped the top half of his leathers, leaving them hanging around his waist. It looked cumbersome, but not as much, she guessed, as trying to work whilst wearing the top half, too. Underneath he wore a white T-shirt, which she felt was an unwise choice, but one she appreciated, given the way it clung to his chest and torso and afforded a delightful view of his muscular arms. The blobs and smudges of oil and dirt only served to highlight the bright whiteness of the material, and the tanned skinned of the wearer.

As well as having luscious dirty-blond hair that she wanted to tangle her fingers in, Rafe was also incredibly handsome. He had cheekbones to die for, a smattering of pale stubble on his cheeks and chin, lips that should really have been too plump for a man, but somehow suited him, and the most soulful pair of blue eyes she’d ever seen. She suspected that, had he not been wearing leathers and covered in dirt and grime, he would actually appear angelic. But, as it was, he came across as quite the opposite. An impression cemented by his next words. “Hey, you lost, sweetheart? You looking for somewhere to powder your nose?”
