New Release: Fast Lust #romance #sexy #badboy #biker

Hi folks,

I’m delighted to announce the release of my sexy romance novella, Fast Lust! It was previously in the British Bad Boys boxed set, and is now available as a standalone release. Here’s what it’s all about:

Blurb:

When a straitlaced journalist and a fearless motorcycle racer are thrown into an interview together, will they find any common ground? Or are they destined to clash?

Gloria Heath loves her job as a lifestyle journalist. She also loves the perks—free meals, complimentary spa treatments, behind-the-scenes access and more. So when her boss sends her on an assignment to the British Superbikes tournament at Donington Park, she’s less than impressed. Sports are definitely not her thing, and her brief is to find a rider with an interesting back story and write about their journey. But how is she supposed to do that when she really doesn’t care one way or the other?

When she experiences the atmosphere and the racing, however, she starts to see the attraction. Soon after, she finds the perfect case study for her article. Rafe Donovan is fearless, ambitious, and the underdog of the tournament. He’s also drop dead gorgeous. She eagerly sets out to interview him, but soon discovers the bad boy biker is a tough nut to crack. The more she asks questions, the more he shuts down. Throw some chemistry into the mix and things go from bad to worse. Can she get the material she needs, or is her first foray into sports writing doomed to fail?

On a Dark Tide by Naomi Clark (@naomi_jay)

Thanks for having me here today! I’m excited to share my latest Romance on the Go, ON A DARK TIDE, a story I constantly (and probably annoyingly) referred to as the Creepy Ocean Story whilst writing it. I’m a mermaid at heart. I love the ocean, whatever the season, whatever the weather. Nothing makes me feel as at peace or inspired as sitting by the shore. ON A DARK TIDE is one of several stories and books I’ve written with the ocean at its heart, and it won’t be the last.

ON A DARK TIDE also let me touch on something else I love – true crime and unsolved mysteries. I have a fairly long commute to work each day, and I usually pass the time by listening to podcasts. Delving into truly strange and puzzling stories of disappearances helped me shape the background of Piper and Cam’s story, and hopefully you’ll enjoy delving into the mystery of Dina Mackay with them!

*****

On a Dark TideBlurb

True crime podcasters Piper and Cam have travelled to the sleepy seaside town of Findlay to investigate the disappearance of a woman nearly a decade ago. The theories are wild—everything from murder to mermaids, and Piper is determined to get to the truth. Battling her fear of the ocean, Piper soon realizes Findlay has deeper, darker secrets than she could ever have believed. As she struggles to master her fear and deal with her unrequited love for Cam, Piper is lured into perilous waters. The truth waits beneath the waves—and Piper’s fate waits with it.

Excerpt

“Cam,” Piper said again, almost wailing it as Cam took off back up the shore toward the town. Piper started after her, got her feet tangled in those grabby strands of seaweed, and toppled over. She landed face-first in the sand, grit and water-worn stones digging into her palms. “Shit!”

She lay there for a few seconds, berating herself for being so stupidly tongue-tied. Then she picked herself up and hugged herself against the bitter cold wind rushing off the waves. She could fix this.

All she had to do was run after Cam and say … something. She didn’t know what, though. She still wasn’t sure what the hell had just happened. What Cam had expected to happen.

But she wouldn’t find out hanging around on the beach, would she?

She started walking, the distant lights of the town guiding her. She and Cam had come further than she realized, and night had swept in while they walked. She couldn’t even see Cam’s silhouette up ahead. But she couldn’t have gotten far, surely. Piper had only been down a minute.

Piper cupped her hands to her mouth. “Cam? Cameron!”

There was no answer. The wind shrieked down the bay, suddenly wild, and Piper flashed back vividly to her dream last night. She wondered if that’s all it had been, a howling gale invading her dreams. She glanced out across the ink-dark waters of the bay, watching the white caps rise and fall as the tide drove in. It was too easy to imagine being tossed around in those wild waves, mouth full of salt, lungs burning, body sinking and rising at the will of the water. It was too easy to imagine Dina Mackay walking into the sea…

Piper shivered, unsure where the idea came from. The wind rose and fell in strange harmony, filling her head with shipwrecks and yellowed bones polished by centuries of sand and water. She stopped looking for Cam, entranced and disturbed by the song of the bay. It did sound like voices, eerily so. Sweet, inhuman singing as the wind ripped through hidden caves and over knee-high banks of marram grass.

Dina could have heard that beautiful, awful music the night she went missing. She could have walked out of the Lobster Pot, just like Piper had tonight, pleasantly buzzed, and thought she heard voices down on the shore, out in the water.

Piper didn’t remember moving, but the water lapped at her feet now, so either she’d moved or the tide had. She wasn’t sure. It didn’t matter. The singing swirled around her, warming her where the wind had chilled her. The water washed over her canvas shoes, soaking in and anchoring her to the shore. The singing pulled at her, dragged at her, as inexorable as the ocean.

About the Author

Naomi likes writing, perfume, fancy tea, and unfathomable monsters from the dark spaces between the stars, not necessarily in that order. She has been writing stories ever since she learned how to write, but is still trying to master the art of biography writing. When she’s not dealing with werewolves, demons, or sea monsters, she’s hanging out with her cat and probably watching a documentary about Bigfoot. If the cat isn’t available, she’s with her fiancé watching cookery shows and silently plotting her next book.

Mid Week Tease: …it always paid to be cautious. #MWTease

mid-week-tease-buttonHi everyone,

Welcome back to Mid Week Tease! As promised, here’s another tease from my new novel, Hiding in Plain Sight. I hope you’ll check out this sexy spy thriller!

Hiding in Plain SightPicking up the leather-bound cocktail menu, she used it to further obscure herself as she took in the rest of her surroundings. She’d already done a scan of the place in her peripheral vision as she’d made her way from the door to the table she now sat at, but before she fixed her attentions on her target, she wanted to make absolutely certain there were no other persons of interest in the vicinity. The last thing she wanted was to start eyeballing the group, only to discover they had some covert security bods in the bar, who were eyeballing her. She doubted it—their intel suggested that they only used hired goons when absolutely necessary—but it always paid to be cautious.

After a couple of minutes—luckily it wasn’t a huge area, and therefore she didn’t have to hold the menu in front of her face for too long, making her look suspicious or terribly indecisive—she was satisfied, and slowly lowered the cocktail list to the smoked glass table, then closed it with a slap.

As if by magic, a handsome waiter around her age materialised. “Hello, madam,” he said in Dutch, a language that she was, luckily, fluent in. He’d have switched to English with no issues—the Dutch were well known for their excellent command of English, and in a place such as this, being multilingual would no doubt be in the job description—but she’d blend in more effectively if she spoke the native tongue. “What can I get you?”

She hadn’t actually had time to read the menu, but it didn’t matter. Cocktail selections were almost the same the world over, unless establishments decided to give drinks different names, or put a new spin on an old classic. Even if they did, though, she’d never been refused an old classic when she’d ordered one, whether it was on the list or not. “Hi,” she replied, also in Dutch. “I’ll take a Manhattan, please.”

“Very good, madam. It’ll be with you in a few moments.”

“Thank you.” She treated him to a wide smile, as well as exercising her best manners. It certainly couldn’t hurt to establish a rapport with a member of staff. After all, there was a chance he might be useful at some point.

While she waited for her drink, she pondered her next move. The group was still there, still being loud and obnoxious, and had successfully managed to get their oysters and caviar. She rolled her eyes. That was one benefit to staying in such a high-end hotel, she supposed. There was serious money at stake, and the management would want to do anything possible to keep guests happy, knowing that word of mouth, particularly in circles with such funds at their disposal, was by far the biggest influence in bringing in more people. More people with money. And so it went on. Here, at least, money really did make the world go around.

*****

Excerpt:

Thirteen years ago, I died.

While my death hadn’t been physical, it became a never-ending death of the heart. A complete withering of the soul. You see, Austin Carlyle was my everything. My best friend. My lover. The very air I breathed. The sun in my world. My warmth. The beating of my heart. But the night before our wedding, my heart would be ripped from me when Austin’s life ended in a horrific car crash. A crash I ‘survived’ if that’s what you want to call it.

Unable to cope with Austin’s loss, I retreated deep within myself, eventually leaving New York and my broken past behind. I found some semblance of a new life in Colorado, living in the make-believe worlds of the novels I wrote.

Three weeks ago, I returned to the place I knew would hold all the ghosts of my past, though I came back to the Big Apple at the urging of an old acquaintance, Zander Harrison—Austin’s one-time agent and friend. He convinced me to help him with a script to a movie that had been put in a very expensive holding pattern. The leading man hadn’t been happy with the direction of the film and had requested Zander find me. I couldn’t imagine why. I wrote romance novels. I wasn’t a script writer. But something about my books captured Cayden—an A-list actor I’d never seen or heard of before. Of course, I’d soon find out not knowing who the actor was, was ridiculous. I might have been living in my own personal dark ages, but still. He was a megastar. However, the real shocker would be what I faced when memories from the past came back to haunt me.

Weak, bone-cold, sopping-wet, and on the verge of batshit crazy, I stumbled into someone on Valentine’s Day—of all days—who shook me to my very unsteady foundation. What I saw when I looked at him was the face of a destroying angel, because it was like looking back in time at Austin. Oh, there were a few things different, like the color of his hair being nowhere near the pitch black of Austin’s, but so much about the man was baffling. He was the same height—his build an exact match. His voice—eerily close in texture, tone, and inflection. But if that’s not strange enough, he spoke with the same cadence.

Who was he? The Hollywood heartthrob I’d never seen before—Cayden Cain.

After our bizarre ‘introduction’ the need to know more about him ate at me like the slow drip of acid. I had to find some answers, so I searched the internet. Surprised by the results of my search would be an understatement. It was all too much. Too unbelievable. Impossible. Cayden was twenty-three years old, the exact same age Austin was when he was killed, but even stranger, Cayden had been born in the same month, on the same day—May eighteenth—in the same city as Austin, only years later.

But that’s not all. There was a weird coincidence of Cayden being involved in a car accident. One which tragically took the lives of his parents and left him the sole survivor of that accident when he was ten, putting this terrible happening around the same timeframe as the wreck Austin and I were involved in. What was also baffling was the life path Cayden took—acting. It was very close to the path Austin had taken and would have continued to take if he’d been alive. By seventeen, Cayden had been the lead in a small foreign film and moved to Hollywood shortly after, gaining his groundbreaking role at the age of eighteen. The first movie Cayden obtained his superstar recognition for was Longing.

Before Austin’s death, he’d signed a movie deal with Paramount. What was the title of the movie he was to begin filming after our wedding? Longing.

When I first read that, I gaped—completely stunned. Then I read a synopsis of the movie, beyond shocked to see it wasn’t just a coincidence of the title; it was the exact same movie. I had no idea why Paramount shelved their project for so many years. But to find it had finally been completed with Cayden as the leading man, well, what were the odds of such a thing?

Even with all the uncanny coincidences and the almost carbon copy similarities in appearance, what was truly unbelievable? Cayden’s eyes—the same shades of blue from my past. They captured me, looking straight into my soul—the eyes of my love. My life.

Everything changed.

Trust me, I tried to fight against the truth—the pull I hadn’t felt in so very long—but it was no use. I’d come to believe, as crazy as it might seem, some way, somehow, Austin saved me through Cayden. It was as though they were two hearts, one soul. Cayden himself spoke as though he’d always known me. Missed me. Loved me even. I couldn’t explain how it was possible, but he, like Austin, was the missing piece of my heart.

With his touch, Cayden brought me back to life, reawakened dormant feelings, and gave me what had long been missing—Winter Perri. The only problem, I wasn’t sure I could live in Cayden’s superstar, paparazzi infested world.

“Will you stay with me?” he’d asked.

I gave the only answer that made any sense at all.
