Never Marry the Best Man (Whatever It Takes, Book 4) by Julia Kent

Never Marry the Best ManDescription:

There’s no way the hot relative of a minor British royal is hitting on her. She’s misreading everything, right?

Except there’s no mistaking that proposal.

When 50something Ranney Martini (yes, Nessa’s mom!) finds herself being courted by the very English best man in a minor royal’s wedding she’s managing, she can’t help but laugh. He’s 17 years her junior, smoking hot, and an award-winning architect. The flirting is all in her imagination.

Of course it is.

But when a strange twist of fate leaves them trapped in Las Vegas, and Tom has a sudden need for American citizenship – faster than fast – Ranney proves she’s the consummate professional.

Because when you’re a wedding protector, you do whatever it takes to make the perfect wedding.

Even marrying the very handsome best man.

Excerpt:

But… marriage?

When he smiled, his whole face lit up, but those eyes stayed on her, appreciative and wanting. “This is bonkers, completely crazy. These are intelligent people, they aren’t going to believe this is real. You told me yourself a few hours ago that it isn’t real.”

All Ranney could do was lean in further, mesmerized.

Nessa’s words stirred a deep rebellious streak inside her. Was this abnormal? Impossible? Was she prey? Would marrying Tom on a lark like this be a stupid act of a woman seeking — what? What was she seeking?

Novelty, certainly.

One kiss did not a marriage make. Then again, she and Tom were far more compatible – on the surface, at least – than her and her first husband. And the Saltzman Prize was a big deal.

“Oh, now, that’s not so good. That is not what I thought. I drove you for three hours last night, I thought real.” Achilles had turned and was leaning on the console between the front seats. “Maybe I made a mistake. We should go.”

“You’re right,” Ranney said softly to Tom. “It is silly. I can be a bit too strategic at times. Marriage as a tool for helping a client might be a bridge too far. I mean, it could help. It would be quite a story to tell in later years. Our motto at work is Whatever It Takes, after all. But it’s impetuous and completely out of character for me, so — ”

“Hold on,” Tom said. “Achilles, we need a minute. We’ll be right back, don’t leave.”

Jumping out of the car, he ran around and opened Ranney’s door. She stepped out, the afternoon heat hitting her in a wave. The lightweight sweater she’d put on in Boston was now damp with perspiration but, as much as she wanted to strip it off, the silk camisole she was wearing underneath was not okay on its own. Pushing up the sleeves, she headed for the small patch of shade under some palm trees at the edge of the parking lot.

“You are talking about getting married,” he started. “That’s not a joke, not something you just say ‘never mind’ and walk away from a few days later, unless you’re that pop singer, whatever her name is. It’s a binding legal contract–very binding.”

“It’s a piece of paper,” Ranney countered. “You are technically a U.S. citizen, yes? Your mother was born here. You just haven’t claimed your citizenship.”

“Yes.”

“Then this is just till you get your dual passport. Or before that, if you find someone else you want to marry.”

“You are making marriage sound like choosing flavors of ice cream.”

“For some people, it is.”

“Not me.”

“Look, you have everything to gain and nothing to lose but the legal fee to annul it. We’re both single and neither of us is in a relationship. We don’t need to tell our families. We don’t need to move in together or even see each other in Boston. It’s a technicality, a marriage of convenience. Eyes on the Prize.”

As she listened to her own voice painting this transactional picture, though, less transactional images were forming in her mind. This would in no way be a traditional situation, not at all, but surely they’d see each other occasionally? Just to check in, catch up, maybe have dinner? They wouldn’t be together, really, but she had to admit he was right.

In some way they would be bound. Her pulse quickened.

“Why would you do this?” His eyes searched her face, but he was smiling. Broadly. “You have a life, a daughter, friends. You barely know me, and a few hours ago, you didn’t want to get to know me any better. So, why now?

“A rabbi I know once told me not to ask the why questions,” she smiled. “He said there are some things that cannot be explained.”

He squeezed her hands, then used one thumb to stroke a spot on her wrist that made her blood race. “This is crazy.”

“Everybody should do something crazy once in a while. Too much sanity makes you old.”

New Release: Shopping for a Highlander’s Elopement by Julia Kent

Shopping for a Highlander's Elopement by Julia KentBlurb:

I didn’t expect to fall for a Scottish footballer so annoyingly sunny you need shades to be around him.

I didn’t expect to say yes to his heart-felt, if loopy, proposal while he lay injured on the pitch, blathering on about banana pudding and sparkly unicorns.

What I definitely didn’t expect?

For our engagement to explode into a paparazzi circus, our mothers to turn into wedding bulldozers, and for our wedding protector’s perfectly reasonable elopement plan to spiral into a road trip escape.

So here we are.

In Love You, Maine, a town that celebrates Valentine’s Day every single day. We’re here to get married. Quietly. No drama. In disguise.

Although good luck hiding a 6’5” ginger Scottish striker wearing a knee brace and a perpetual extrovert smile.

Instead of being subtle and blending in? Our quiet escape is vibrating heart-shaped beds, mirrors on the ceilings, secret identities, interfering mothers, and one suspiciously enthusiastic moose that humps dumpsters.

This was supposed to be a simple wedding. Just me and Hamish. No fuss.

But nothing about us has ever been simple with us.

Still, this is what love is, right? It’s chaos. It’s compromise. It’s crying in a wedding planner’s office, then kissing in a hot spring.

It’s choosing each other again and again, even when everything goes sideways.

No matter what comes next… this is our comeback story, in more ways than one.

And no – that’s not a euphemism. 🙂

Shopping for a Highlander’s Elopement is a romantic comedy that blends the worlds of four bestselling series by New York Times bestselling author Julia Kent:

– Shopping for a Billionaire

– Shopping for a Highlander

– Whatever It Takes

– Love You, Maine

If you love sports romance, surprise proposals, grand gestures, chaotic weddings, Scottish footballers, golden retriever/black cat energy, and characters who love too hard, mess up spectacularly, and always find their way back to each other with plenty of laughter (and lovingly-used scrunchies) along the way, then this is your book.

SFAHE Teaser 4

Excerpt:

Shannon turns back to me, sliding into big-sister-who-knows-you’re-spiraling mode. A breeze catches her long, brown hair and lifts it across her eyes, warm concern radiating from them. Shannon got Mom’s hair and Dad’s eyes, while I’m the opposite, with Dad’s auburn hair and Mom’s bright blue eyes. Our faces are similar in shape, even if the genetic roll of the dice gave us different features. “You okay?”

I open my mouth.

Nothing comes out.

“Oh, boy.” She takes my hand and scoots into the row where Declan was sitting. “You’ve reached the blank-stare stage. That’s never good.”

We settle into two seats, my breath still shaky. Shannon nudges me with her shoulder.

“You know,” she says, “I’m not even sure where I’m supposed to sit. Jacoby side or McCormick?”

“You were born a Jacoby.”

“Sure, but I married into this madness. And now I’ve got a toe in each volcano.”

“Welcome to the lava pool.”

She laughs. “This is all still better than my proposal, though.”

Every little sister loves being reminded of her big sister’s screw ups. I laugh. “You swallowed your engagement ring.”

She grins. “And launched us into a seventy-two-hour medical drama called #poopwatch. Honestly, this whole spectacle? Glitter cannon, megaphone, and Hamish’s mom’s interpretive bagpipe routine? It’s still less traumatic than giving birth to a diamond solitaire.”

“I had to text you for stool updates.”

“I color-coded the spreadsheet. It was efficient. But I don’t recommend unexpected emergency room trips on proposal day.”

I crack a laugh, the pressure in my chest finally giving way. “Thanks for the warning. I have no plans to see the inside of an ER today, thank you very much.”

Shannon takes my hand. Her expression shifts to that rare sister-serious look I only ever see in moments that count. I’m so lucky that she and Carol are good, solid, kind, smart adults. I need them at times like this.

Need them more than ever.

We can wisecrack and one-up. We can razz each other and needle. But when one of us is in the fear zone, we’re there for her.

Always.

“This is love, Amy. Ridiculous, oversized, loud-ass love. It’s not perfect. It’s not quiet. It’s never going to be. But it’s real. Hamish is choosing you, all of you. And yeah, he’s doing it in a full stadium with a glitter fallout zone, but he’s doing it. He’s all in.”

I breathe.

“He’s just… so much.”

“I know. But he’s your much.”

One Night Hand Stand (Get What You Need, Book 1) by Julia Kent

OneNightHandstand FBCover

Description:

Who accidentally has a one-night stand with her yoga instructor?

Yep. Me.

How did I accidentally sleep with someone, right? I know what you’re thinking. Whoops! I slipped and inadvertently inserted Tab A into Slot B.

That’s not quite how it went.

But my yoga instructor is really, really skilled with Tab A, if you know what I mean.

Slot B never had it so good.

What am I supposed to do now, as I walk into my yoga class and find the guy I ghosted this morning… there, in front of the class, perfectly aligned and grinning at me like he remembers touching all my chakras.

He’s perfect. Too perfect. He’s so perfect he’s ruining my job.

I’m an investigative reporter, working on spec for an article for a national magazine, and my job is to find all the ways this yoga chain is corrupt.

The only thing criminal here is that I can’t have him in Slot B ever again. And I would. I’d turn myself into a paper doll book if that’s what it took for more of that action.

I want him. He wants me. Nothing I do will make him back off because the chemistry is off the charts.

Except for one pesky little thing:

We’re at cross-purposes.

I need my exposé to get the job of my dreams. He needs to sell his stake in the yoga chain before I expose the corrupt current owner.

That makes him my enemy. My nemesis. The guy I have to get around to get ahead.

And now we’re supposed to hate each other.

But who ever let that get in the way of love?

Bottom line: this is special. She is special. The way I feel when I am with her is more than special, from her secret stash of sugar in a snooty yoga class to the way she tugs my hair when I go down on her to her confession about merlot and pinot noir and cheese and crackers.

Special. All of it.

And when you have someone this special in your life, all you want to do is spend more time licking her to orgasm.

Then bury yourself in her while she moans for more.

What? You were expecting a profession of love?

OUT NOW—Love You Now (Love You, Maine, Book 4) by Julia Kent (@jkentauthor) #romance #romanticcomedy #romcom #contemporaryromance

Description:

Ana DaSilva is looking for a palate cleanser. A one night stand. A reboot.

Instead, she got fireworks, sparks, chemistry, and the perfect guy. No one wants to meet Mr. Right when he should just be Mr. Rebound, but Mr. Right is so, so right.

But then he went from Mr. Right to Mr. Never, because when she learns she’s pregnant three days after that wonderful night with Dennis, she realizes her sleazy drug dealing ex not only left her with the legal mess she knew about, he gave her a life-long present.

One that means ignoring Dennis’ texts and phone calls, no matter how much she wants to answer.

Dennis Luview wants to escape his pain. Coming back to his hometown of Luview, Maine – the cheesy tourist trap where every day was Valentine’s Day – means facing a past he left behind twenty-four years ago. Yes, his family is loving, and sure, he has roots that go bone-deep in the small town community where people step up for each other.

But the naive eighteen-year-old who left to serve his country is now a retired Special Ops vet with a heavy entourage of ghosts and PTSD. No woman deserves all the baggage he’s lugging around.

Including Ana, who clearly wants nothing to do with him, no matter how intense their one haunting encounter really was.

Which is why six months after that hot night, he’s stunned to find her in his hometown, at a bridal shower, her ripe, pregnant belly swelling under a gorgeous yellow sundress.

A public confrontation turns into a very private reunion, and as Dennis pursues Ana she opens up, but is he crazy to want her — and what turns out to be another man’s baby — to settle down and find stability and love?

Or is he deluding himself that he’s remotely worth the happiness an instant family could offer, after his terrible past?

If you’re looking for a secret(ish) baby, one-night stand, strangers-to-lovers romance set in a town where every day is Valentine’s Day, with a veteran with PTSD who volunteers at an animal-rescue sanctuary and a therapist who keeps picking the wrong men (until now), then settle in with a cup of coffee to read the final book in the Love You, Maine series that features the Luview family.

Excerpt:

Her scream broke his heart.

And triggered a flashback.

Instantly, the elevator was filled with the whirl of helicopter blades, the piercing Doppler effect of bullets whizzing past his ears so crisp and real. Hot air filled his lungs with a suffocating pull, chest expanding with his sharp inhale. Dust crowded his nose, nostrils burning, as memory obliterated the present.

The hard stop from the elevator’s brake system shocked him back into the moment, Ana sobbing in his arms, shaking as if her tendons were about to snap. None of this was tenable. A cold sweat broke out across his face and chest.

Too much.

It was all too much.

“Your heart–it’s racing so fast!” She pulled her face away from his neck, mascara streaking down her cheeks. His dysregulation seemed to yank her out of her own.

“I’m fine,” he grunted, both of them knowing damn well he was lying.

“What’s wrong?”

“Nothing.” Speech was hard, his tongue moving slower than it should. Ears ringing, he felt like his lungs were out of sync with his mouth, which was working to funnel air into him.

“Flashback?”

All he could do was frown.

“Tell me. Tell me what happened.”

“What?”

“What do you see? In your mind’s eye?”

“I’m not your patient.”

“Of course not. But you can tell me. You can share. There’s nothing you can’t say to me.”

“Ana, twenty seconds ago you were shrieking like you were dying. Suddenly, you’re tough?”

“Not tough. Still freaking out. But you need attention, too.”

An acrid gunpowder smell burned in his nose.

“I’m good.”

“Your jaw looks like it’s about to break in half. Your shoulders are blocks of granite.” Her hand was on his arm, rubbing his shoulder cap lightly.

“I work out. Thanks for noticing.”

“Ah. I see. Deflection.”

“Lady, if I didn’t deflect, I’d have died long ago.”

“I’m sure that’s true for parts of you,” she said softly, her doe eyes soft and smart, inviting him to be softer, too. “But it’s not true any longer. You can change. You can let other parts of you step in.”

“What parts are those?”

“The part that’s retired and never has to be in combat again.”

He laughed, his mouth opening so abruptly, it hurt along the jawline. He almost said, You’ve never been in Luview on Valentine’s Day, have you? but the joke would fall flat.

And he didn’t want to get into the whole “You’re a Luview?” b.s. conversation he’d had hundreds of times in his life. Last thing he needed right now was more complication.

Random Acts of BabyGet Random Acts of Baby, an all-new romance featuring Darla, Trevor, and Joe, along with Josie and Dr. Alex Derjian and all the band members.

You know those television stories about the woman who goes to the emergency room thinking she has a bad case of indigestion or kidney stones or a burst appendix and she comes home with a bouncing baby boy?

Stupid woman, right? Who the hell doesn’t know she’s pregnant for nine and a half months? I used to think those mamas were one block short of a level trailer.

Used to.

Random Acts of Baby is the 11th book in Julia Kent’s New York Times bestselling series as Darla, Trevor, and Joe are back for a long, crazy journey involving a baby, living two lives, and learning who you can count on most when you need a helping hand.

Author Bio:

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Julia Kent writes romantic comedy with an edge. Since 2013, she has sold more than 2 million books, with 4 New York Times bestsellers and more than 19 appearances on the USA Today bestseller list. Her books have been translated into French and German, with more titles releasing in 2020 and beyond.

From billionaires to BBWs to new adult rock stars, Julia finds a sensual, goofy joy in every contemporary romance she writes. Unlike Shannon from Shopping for a Billionaire, she did not meet her husband after dropping her phone in a men’s room toilet (and he isn’t a billionaire she met in a romantic comedy).

She lives in New England with her husband and three children where she is the only person in the household with the gene required to change empty toilet paper rolls.

Excerpt from RANDOM ACTS OF CRAZY (Book 1):

DARLA

The last everloving fucking thing I expected to see as I drove down I-76 toward my little hometown of Peters, Ohio was a buck-naked man wearing a spiked collar and a guitar.

I mean, only wearing a collar and a guitar. The man was barefoot, for goodness sake. On the highway. In May, in Oh-fucking-hi-o, where winter isn’t a season but a state of mind.

How could I not stop and offer him a ride? Seriously? Where was he hiding a weapon? Okay, Okay, maybe up there, but think about it for a minute. He’d have to twist quite a bit to access anything he hid up his puckered—well, there!

And he wasn’t a bit hard on the eyes, either. Kind of a Brad Pitt circa 1991 look, before he married Miss Toothpick and then left her for that wan Elvira and her weak Michelle Duggar imitation.

Anyhow…back to the naked hitchhiker. My 1986 Toyota Tercel wasn’t anything special but it, um, had a floor. And a windshield. And a place for Mr. Naked to rest his weary nuts. The vinyl might be cracked and faded and it wasn’t no Giving Tree from that Shel Silverstein book, but at least the man could give his balls a rest. Those muscles looked like they could sure use some eyes hungrily ogling them, too, for they screamed for loving attention. If I couldn’t touch, I could at least be the one to stare, right? I’m a giver like that.

Always thinking about others.
