Casting My Characters for Pack of Lies (@cw1985) #werewolf #paranormal #erotic #romance

packoflies02Hi everyone,

Casting my characters in my own mind isn’t something I always do. As well as novels, I write a lot of short stories and novellas, so it’s not always necessary. Sometimes I don’t spend enough time with characters to build up an image of what they look like—it’s more about what they do.

However, for Pack of Lies, I knew all along it was going to be a book with a large word count, so I needed to keep a good grasp on my characters to make sure I didn’t end up with any inconsistencies. Also, I feel if I have a really good feel for what my characters look like and behave like, then my readers will too, and it’ll hopefully make the story so much more real.

It didn’t take long for me to work out who I’d have playing my sexy werewolf boys if the novel ever got made into a film (ahh, a girl can dream!). The delectable Hugh Jackman would be perfect for Matthew Adams, the older werewolf brother. He’s big, can look menacing, and yet is gorgeous and women would certainly enjoy looking at him.

Taylor Kitsch would be ideal for the younger werewolf brother, Isaac Adams. He’s handsome and has a more playful vibe about him. I’ve since seen him play a gay character in The Normal Heart so that’s just perfect—he can definitely “act” gay, if you see what I mean!

Strangely, I didn’t have an actress in mind for Matthew’s love interest, Sally. Perhaps it’s because I like my male eye candy better!

Isaac’s love interest, Nathaniel, is a character I also cast in my mind. Aussie actor Daniel Feurriegel would play Nathaniel. He played a gay character in Spartacus, so I know he can also “act” gay very successfully, and damn, I think they’d look good together 😉

I haven’t mentally cast any of the more minor characters, so I’ll leave that up to the film studio 😉

My Sexy Saturday #47 – I’m Too Sexy #MySexySaturday

My Sexy Saturday

Welcome back to My Sexy Saturday. This is where writers post either 7 words, 7 sentences or 7 paragraphs from their published work or work in progress, sticking to the week’s theme. This week’s theme is I’m too sexy. I’m sharing a sexy snippet from my upcoming anthology, Multi-Orgasmic, which is due for release on the 18th November. It’s available for pre-order now, and will also be available for free to Kindle Unlimited users. Enjoy!

“W—want me? You want me?” His heart pounded, and his brain raced to keep up with what she was saying. Did she really mean what he thought she meant? Was there a way he could have misunderstood her words? He didn’t think so. “You mean, like, want me in the sex way?” He knew his phrasing was ridiculous, but he couldn’t think of anything better right at that moment. His brain was too fried.

Corporal Grey laughed, her blue eyes sparkling as crinkles appeared in their corners. It was adorable and sexy all at once, and Jesse’s cock surprised him by hardening.

“Yes,” she said. “I mean in the sex way. But I guess you know now why I’ve been behaving the way I have? Can you forgive me? I didn’t mean to make you feel like a useless sack of shit. I’m sorry.”

“Yeah, I can forgive you. But only if you make it up to me.” It seemed his cock had taken over control of his mouth now, because as the words floated into the air, he realised he had no idea what he actually meant.

“Oh yeah?” Moving her hands to her hips, Corporal Grey adopted a saucy stance. “And how am I supposed to do that?”

Jesse cast his gaze about the room rapidly, hoping for inspiration. Thankfully, he spotted something that would serve his purpose perfectly. Standing, he gently pushed past her and retrieved the pace stick that was propped up in the corner. Designed for marking time in parades and similar, when it was open it formed a ‘V’ shape; closed it was just a wooden stick. One he could use to get his own back on Corporal Grey. And he really had to stop thinking of her as Corporal Grey, especially considering what he was about to do. She was Roxanne.

Turning back to her, he stifled a grin when he saw the look on her face. She obviously hadn’t been expecting that. Pointing to a nearby table, he commanded, “Pull your skirt up to your waist and bend over.”

You can pre-order Multi-Orgasmic here.

My NaNoWriMo Novel – Pack of Lies (@cw1985) #werewolf #paranormal #erotic #romance

packoflies02Hi everyone,

If you’d have said to me two years ago—maybe even just a year ago—that I would “win” NaNoWriMo, I’d have laughed at you. For those of you that don’t know, NaNoWriMo, or National Novel Writing Month, is a yearly challenge which takes place in November. Writers sign up via the website and challenge themselves to write 50,000 words in a month—in order words, a novel. Or at least a good chunk of one. They’ll all be hard at it even as you read this post. Sadly, I’m not able to take part this year.

I’m not a fast writer, but then nor am I a slow one. I sit comfortably somewhere in the middle. But for some reason, last year I decided I was going to give NaNoWriMo a go. I’d already done a ton of research for the novel I intended to work on next, all I needed to do was getting the planning done and I’d be ready to go. And so, having worked out that I’d have to write 2,500 per day for twenty days (I don’t work weekends, so I had to remove weekend days from the equation), I figured it was still achievable.

Come the 1st of November I was signed up, had everything planned out and once I opened that Word document, I quickly started to fill it with words. I’m a bit of a word count watcher when I write, anyway, so the only difference was, rather than simply updating the widget in my website’s sidebar, I would also update on the NaNoWriMo website. I started off really well, and was achieving my target each day. Of course, I dropped behind my “buddies” at weekends, but soon caught up again on weekdays.

I have to admit, it was addictive. Granted, I’d already done an awful lot of hard work before opening that Word document, but it didn’t mean the writing was easy, especially as it was the most complex piece of work I’d written to date. But somehow, come the 29th November (the 30th was a Saturday, and so the 29th was my finish date), I did it. I hopped over that 50,000 word mark, copied and pasted the text into the NaNoWriMo site to get it validated, and received my winner’s certificate and badge. It was a fantastic feeling—I’d done it!

However, the novel was far from finished. The challenge had really broken the back of it, but I knew I still had a long way to go. I didn’t stop writing, but I admit from the 50k mark until the end was a lot slower going because I didn’t have that urgency pushing me to write faster. Not to mention during November, I’d rejigged my days to make writing my priority.

Finally, in the New Year of 2014, I finished the book. It was almost twice the length it had been at the end of November—95,000 words. So personally, I still think I did pretty damn well to write it in that period of time, and I’m delighted to see it out there for people to read and hopefully enjoy.

Planning Pack of Lies (@cw1985) #werewolf #paranormal #erotic #romance

Hi everyone,

packoflies01If you’ve been following the other posts about this book, you’ll know I did rather a lot of research for this book. As a result, there was a lot of planning to do, too! I had to make sense of all the research I’d done, figure out what parts of it were needed, what was superfluous to requirements, how everything fitted together. There was lots to weave into the book—the most complex I’ve written to date—historical elements, contemporary elements, fact, fiction, settings, lies, intrigue, two main characters, lots of secondary characters, romance, hot sex… the list goes on.

Let’s just say it’s a good job I started a new A4 notebook for this project 😉 This is not a complaint, I hasten to add. I actually had a really fantastic time doing all the preparation for writing this novel, and with such a complex storyline, it was necessary. It also meant that come November 2013, when I started writing the book, I’d have more chance of getting in the necessary word count each day in order to “win” NaNoWriMo—but that’s for the next post. Fortunately, my epic planning worked, as here I am with a completed and published novel!

The book has been incredibly well received so far, with lots of four and five star reviews—so if you’re a paranormal romance fan, I hope you’ll check it out!

Mid Week Tease: “…a little holiday sex never did anybody any harm.” #MWTease

MidWeekTease2Hi everyone,

Welcome back to Mid Week Tease. This week, I’m sharing a tease from the just-released Sapphic Smut anthology, which I co-edited, and also contributed a story to. My tale is called Don’t Walk, and is based in Amsterdam. Enjoy 🙂

Sapphic Smut“No,” she replied, “I’m not. Because I would never have met you otherwise.”

“Oh. Oh!” Mieke had remained kneeling on the floor in front of her, and the look in her eyes now was pure desire. Perhaps Alana really did have a concussion. “Really? Me?”

“Yes, you. Unless you object.”

“Uh, no!” She shook her head vehemently. A blonde goddess had the hots for her—who was she to refuse? Plus, a little holiday sex never did anybody any harm, did it?

“Good.” Mieke said nothing else, standing up and lifting Alana carefully up as she went. Alana was shorter than the Dutchwoman, so Mieke bent her blonde head, slanted her lips over Alana’s and gave her a kiss so sensual, so sexy, she thought her legs were going to give out.

The other woman’s mouth was hot, her tongue agile. She tasted very faintly of coffee, and she melted into her embrace, returning the kiss with enthusiasm. Alana wasn’t quite what was happening, why or how, but she didn’t care. Even if it was a dream, she was going to enjoy the moment.

Mieke reached down and curled her fingers around the bottom of Alana’s t-shirt and pulled it up. They parted briefly as she tugged it over her head, then immediately melded their lips back together. Mieke undid her bra with such deftness that Alana hardly knew she was doing it until suddenly, her breasts were free. Cupping them, it was apparent that the blonde knew what she was doing. She gently kneaded the flesh, stimulating Alana until the globes of flesh felt heavy and needy, and her erect nipples pressed insistently against her palms. Mieke then tweaked and twisted the nubs, turning Alana into a quivering bundle of lust. She arched helplessly into her touch, moaned into her mouth.

The Research (Part Two) for Pack of Lies (@cw1985) #werewolf #paranormal #erotic #romance

packoflies02Hi everyone,

Wow, I can hardly believe that I did so much research for a book that it warrants more than one blog post. But this one did—it’s a 96,000 word thriller with historical elements, sex, romance and werewolves. And the werewolves, as the main characters, had to be paid very close attention to—for example, where would they change on the full moon?

The answer to this question explains why, last September, I found myself wearing a hard hat and clambering down into an old cave and mine system. Not by myself, I hasten to add, but with a very nice local gentleman, who generously gave up a few hours of his Sunday to take me and my other half down (who was also very generous with his time and patience as I dragged us off into the Peak District in the name of research!) into the cave system so I could see if it was feasible for two grown men to go down there and change into werewolves on a full moon.

Fortunately, after much banging of heads on low ceilings (thank goodness for the hard hats!) and crawling about in dark and narrow passages, I discovered it was indeed, feasible. Granted, it’s a fictional novel so it would have been okay to make it up, or stretch the truth, but I’m nothing if not a perfectionist. So imagine my relief when, having finally reached a cavern where I could stand up straight, I discovered that two large werewolves could indeed, prowl around in the darkness. Even better, the lack of space in the passages we’d entered through was such that, in werewolf form, they wouldn’t be able to get back out. Not until they’d changed back into human form. I can’t say why this is important without giving away some of the plot, so you’ll just have to read it and see!
