Lust at First Bite – Lindsay Gordon (ed.)

Posted on 16 June 2009

I finally managed to tear myself away from the gorgeous creature on the front cover of Lust at First Bite and part the covers. Including stories from the likes of Janine Ashbless, Kristina Lloyd, Portia Da Costa and more, this book promised much. Sex and vampires – one of my favourite combinations. I adored similar Black Lace anthologies, such as Lust Bites and Magic and Desire, but for some reason, this one just wasn’t quite up there with the best.

Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying it’s terrible, it just isn’t as good as a lot of Black Lace I’ve read. Perhaps it’s because it was more about the bite part than the lust? I’m not sure. Some stories were far superior to others (I’m naming no names) and they had me all of a-shiver, but others were a real let-down. It kind of reminded me of the fairy tale about the little girl – when she was good, she was very, very good, but when she was bad, she was horrid. Lust at First Bite is just that – the stories that were good were excellent, the others were ‘meh.’

It’s always important to remember that opinions will vary and it might have just been certain writing styles that turned me off, so I don’t want to discourage anyone. But I think that if you loved Lust Bites for its sheer sexiness then you’ll find something lacking here.
